Frequently asked questions
Tap the "New Game" button on the home screen. Choose between Individual or Team play, set the number of players, enter player names, and configure your scoring preferences. Then tap "Start Game" to begin tracking scores.
During game setup, use the "+" and "−" buttons to add or remove player slots. You can have 2–8 players for individual games or configure teams of 2. Player names can be edited at any time during setup.
At the start of each round, enter each player's bid (the number of tricks they expect to win). After the round, enter the actual tricks taken. The app automatically calculates scores, including bonuses for making your bid and penalties for failing.
Bags (overtricks) are the extra tricks you take beyond your bid. Each bag is worth 1 point, but they accumulate — when you reach 10 bags (configurable), you receive a −100 point penalty. The app tracks bags automatically and warns you when you're approaching the threshold.
Yes! You can undo the last completed round using the "Undo" option in the menu. This removes the most recent round's scores and lets you re-enter the correct bids and tricks.
To start fresh, use the "End Game" option from the menu during gameplay, or tap "New Game" from the home screen. This will clear all current game data. Note that ended games cannot be resumed.
Yes! Spades Scoreboard supports both team-based play (classic 2v2 format) and individual play. Choose your preferred mode when setting up a new game. Team scores are combined automatically.
A Nil bid means a player bids zero tricks. If successful, the team earns +100 points. If the player takes any tricks, the team loses −100 points. Blind Nil (bidding nil before seeing your cards) scores +200 / −200 in some variations.
In Progressive mode, the app calculates the maximum cards each player can receive based on your deck size and player count (max = total cards ÷ players, rounded down). For example, with 9 players and 2 decks (104 cards), each player can get at most 11 cards. Rounds 1–11 play normally, but rounds 12 and 13 are capped at 11 cards — shown in orange as "11 cards (capped from 12)". Nil bids are also allowed on capped rounds since players have the maximum possible cards.
Yes! All game data is stored locally on your device. You don't need an internet connection to track scores. Your games are saved automatically and persist between sessions.
Try these steps: (1) Make sure you're running the latest version of the app. (2) Close and reopen the app. (3) Restart your device. (4) Check that your device has sufficient storage space. If the issue persists, contact us at support@vlvdworks.com with your device model, OS version, and a description of the problem.
